RPO "Afif" received funding under the project "Strengthening rehabilitation services in the health system"
Led by UCP Wheels for Humanity (UCPW) and supported by the Ukrainian Association of Physical Therapy (UAPT), the Ukrainian National Association for People with Disabilities (NAPD), the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT), and the Republican Medical College of Tajikistan (RMC), the USAID-funded Strengthening Rehabilitation Services in Health Systems project seeks to strengthen rehab service delivery systems in Tajikistan and Ukraine by contributing to the development of policy and regulatory frameworks that are rooted in practical, local hospital-tested experiences; supporting physical therapy (PT) professionalization; and raising awareness of the relevance of rehab services to quality of life. Ultimately, the SRSHS project will strengthen the skills of rehab providers in the two countries, reach individuals and medical professionals with awareness-raising activities, and increase demand for rehab services.
Objectives of the project:
1. Comprehensive, sustainable rehabilitation services/systems developed & strengthened through partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
2. Access to quality rehabilitation services, including AT, increased for conflict survivors and others requiring such services.
Activities:
1. Support rehab policy framework development by piloting protocols and promoting stakeholder engagement.
1.1. Improve rehab workforce capability by supporting PT education reform in Ukraine and Tajikistan.
2. Generate demand for rehab services.
2.1. Mapping and development of referral pathways.
Role of NGO Afif in the process of implementation of the project
In Tajikistan, Afif will support UCPW to implement activities designed to establish an entry-level PT education curriculum within RMC and increase the clinical capacity of existing faculty and rehab providers.

UCP Wheels for Humanity was founded in 1996 to increase access to mobility for children and adults with physical disabilities who live in low- and middle-income countries. UCP Wheels provides appropriately fitted wheelchairs and quality of life services and acts as an advocate and capacity-building partner to local organizations, creating sustainable, community-based systems that support long-term change.
